Why I Started My Breast Cancer Awareness Non-Profit

Breast cancer is a battle that touches many lives, and for me, it hit home in the most personal
way possible. The journey to founding "I Am My Sister's Bra Foundation, Inc" began with a
profound and life-altering experience that opened my eyes to the urgent need for greater
awareness, support, and solidarity in the fight against this disease.

In 2008 my life took an unexpected turn when my sister, Laura, was diagnosed with Stage IV
Metastatic breast cancer. The diagnosis brought an overwhelming wave of fear, uncertainty, and helplessness. Amidst the medical jargon, treatment plans, and emotional rollercoaster, I realized the critical importance of having a strong support system. It was during this time that the seed for "I Am My Sister's Bra" was planted.

A Personal Journey

Witnessing the struggles and resilience of Laura, I became acutely aware of the gaps in
information and support available to those affected by breast cancer. While there were resources,
they often felt disjointed and difficult to navigate. This experience fueled my determination to
create a more cohesive and accessible support network, leading to the birth of "I Am My Sister's Bra."

Raising Awareness

One of the primary goals of "I Am My Sister's Bra" is to raise awareness about breast cancer.
Early detection is key to successful treatment, yet many people remain unaware of the
importance of regular screenings and self-examinations. Through educational campaigns,
community outreach, and social media efforts, we strive to disseminate crucial information and
encourage proactive health measures.

Providing Support Services

The emotional and financial toll of breast cancer can be overwhelming. At "I Am My Sister's
Bra," we offer a range of support services, including resources for counseling, support groups,
and financial assistance. Our goal is to ensure that no one has to face this journey alone. By
providing a network of care, we aim to lighten the burden and offer hope and encouragement.

Education and Prevention

Education is a powerful tool in the fight against breast cancer. We provide informational
resources to empower individuals with knowledge about risk factors, preventive measures, and
the latest research. By equipping people with information, we hope to inspire proactive steps
towards breast health.

Building a Community

"I Am My Sister's Bra" is more than just an organization; it is a community of strength,
resilience, and solidarity. We bring together individuals from all walks of life, united by a shared commitment to supporting a survivor and someone going through treatments. The bonds formed within this community are a testament to the power of collective strength and compassion.

Advocacy

Advocacy is a crucial component of our mission. We work tirelessly to promote better healthcare policies and support systems for breast cancer patients. By partnering with policymakers, healthcare providers, and other organizations, we strive to create an environment where breast cancer patients receive the care and support, they deserve.

Starting "I Am My Sister's Bra" has been a journey of love, resilience, and unwavering
determination. It is a testament to the incredible strength of those who have battled breast cancer and the enduring spirit of those who support them. Together, we can make a difference, one step at a time.

Thank you for joining me on this journey.
